We are happily working on the Open Evening Twilight Tours, which will be held on Wednesday, 30 April from 4.00pm until 6.30pm at all Concordia Lutheran College campuses!
This Open Evening is dedicated to showcasing the incredible learning environment and community spirit that make Concordia exceptional.
At the Senior Campus, we will soon be reaching out to our current students for volunteers to help with the upcoming event.
The Twilight Tours provide a unique opportunity to explore our campuses and allow our community to appreciate the innovative pathways and inclusive environment we cultivate.

GCTAS is an annual touch football event run by Queensland All Schools Touch and Queensland Touch Football on the Gold Coast. Held in October (first week of term 4) each year, it is the world's largest touch football tournament, with up to 600 teams representing various schools both nationally and internationally. Across the 5-day tournament, over 8,000 students will take to the field playing over 2,000 games across 30 fields, attracting between 6,000 and 10,000 spectators
We have nominated three teams (15 boys, 15 girls and 18 boys) to compete in the tournament, and will be running a trial to select these teams, Week 8 Friday - March 21st. All trials will run from 3:30pm-5pm, and any students wishing to be a part of these teams must trial or complete the attached exemption form. If you wish to trial, please complete the .
Trials will be held on the main oval (AFL oval). Please arrive promptly at the trial at the conclusion of school and warm up as needed.
Please note by nominating to trial, you are committing to attending training over the next two terms in the lead up to the competition.

AUSSEF - STEM Challenge Success
Year 11 Student Dinuk Wijesiri recently participated in a STEM competition using his Preferred Futures Investigation and performed remarkably well. He became a national finalist and received a certificate to acknowledge this achievement. Dinuk has kindly written a short piece detailing his project and the valuable experience gained from this event, which we have included below. We would like to congratulate Dinuk on this wonderful achievement.
My AUSSEF project featured a series of geometric patterns, which were laser cut into a flat sheet of flexible material and allowed it to expand into a complex, curved surface. I was inspired by an educator who demonstrated some basic patterns online. Thereafter, I hoped to incorporate it into a robot to facilitate a unique mode of movement. However, simply creating and manipulating the material consumed the whole year, as I ended up with a system to quickly design and manipulate the materials.
Initially, I aimed to develop a computer model that could use trigonometry to simulate the expansion of the sheets. While this was viable for simple, non-curved surfaces, it collapsed outside these. Instead, I turned to taking 3D models and flattening them so that they could be deployed. I validated this model with several physical prototypes of various online 3D models, which was a major contributor towards a high rating in the construction and testing section.
I was particularly proud as my project drew to a close, and I used the system I had designed to fabricate a 1:1 scale, wearable cap, in a matter of minutes, compared to hours or days required for a 3D Print; demonstrating the practical applications of the system. Along the way, I furthered my understanding of computerised design and gained some insight into how to simulate physical phenomena with Finite Element Analysis. It allowed me to put mathematics and problem-solving to use while having a tangible end product.
Due to the technicality of the project, it was difficult to communicate the applications and explain the limitations of the materials. This, in combination with time constraints, also limited the clarity and organisation of the project.
I would certainly recommend the AUSSEF challenge to other students who have a STEM-based idea that they want to put into practice and perhaps even take to a higher level. It allows them to showcase their ideas and receive feedback, all while developing valuable STEM skills. Despite this, however, I will not be entering AUSSEF this year, as I plan to devote my time to study and various other commitments.
Yours sincerely
Dinuk Wijesiri
